Salt is a Killer

Various lifestyle diseases can be treated by means of dietary adjustments

Most people consume much more salt than the recommended 5 g salt/day. On average between 9 to 12 grams salt is used. Too much salt may increase your risk of high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attacks.

In order to prevent these diseases, reduce your salt intake at home by:

  • Using alternative flavorings agents during food preparation.
  • Not having a salt shaker on the table;
  • Limit intake of savory snacks;
  • Rather choose food products with lower salt/sodium content.

Below are a few myths regarding reduced salt intake:

"Sea salt is not ‘better’ than salt simply because it is ‘natural’"

Himalayan or pink salt is not healthier than salt, because the sodium content is similar.

“Foods high in salt taste salty.”

Some foods that are high in salt don't necessarily taste salty, because they are mixed with other ingredients, e.g. sugar that mask the taste. You need to read food labels to make informed food choices.

“Food has no flavour without salt.”

Initially, food will have a bland taste, but your taste buds will adapt to less salt. Less is considered more, because you will actually experience that food is packed with flavour.

Except for salt, there are many other food products and flavouring agents that contain salt.

To reduce your risk of high blood pressure, heart diseases and strokes.
